How Much Does Home Physiotherapy Cost? Prices, Bundles and What's Included

How Much Does Home Physiotherapy Cost? Prices, Bundles and What's Included

Home physiotherapy with Rehalign costs £90 for your first assessment and £80 for each treatment session after that. If you book a bundle, the price drops to as little as £72 a session, and there's no extra charge for travel.

That's the short answer. Below, we explain what each price covers, how the bundles work, and how to tell whether home visits are right for you or someone you're looking after. We're a team of HCPC-registered physiotherapists, and we visit homes across Birmingham, Solihull, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Dudley and Telford.

What a home visit includes

When you pay for a home visit, you're paying for much more than an hour of exercises. Here's what you get.

  • A physiotherapist who comes to you. There's no travelling, no waiting room and no parking.
  • Time to talk. We listen to your story, your worries and your goals before we touch anything.
  • Treatment in your real surroundings. We can work on the stairs you climb every day, the chair you struggle to get out of, or the bathroom you find hard to use.
  • A plan that fits your home. Exercises are chosen to suit your space, your equipment and your routine.
  • Advice for family and carers. If you're booking for a parent, you're welcome to sit in. We'll show you how to help safely.

You don't need a GP referral to book. You can contact us directly, and we'll take it from there.

Many families tell us the biggest benefit is simple. Someone who finds it hard to leave the house can still get proper, hands-on physiotherapy.

Assessment vs treatment sessions

Your first visit is an assessment. After that, your visits are treatment sessions. They have different prices because they do different jobs.

| | Initial assessment | Treatment session | |---|---|---| | Price | £90 | £80 | | Length | 60 minutes | Follow-up visit | | Purpose | Find out what's going on and make a plan | Carry out your plan and move you forward |

The initial assessment (£90)

This is a full 60 minutes. It includes:

  • a physical assessment, looking at your movement, strength, pain and function
  • a neurological assessment, checking things like balance, sensation and coordination where they matter for your condition
  • a home safety assessment, spotting trip hazards and suggesting simple changes
  • a personalised plan, so you know what we'll do and why
  • a same-day report, which you can keep, share with family or show your GP

The home safety part is something clinics simply can't do. It's especially useful for older adults, and for anyone coming home after a fall, an operation or a hospital stay.

If you'd like to know exactly what happens in the room, our guide to what to expect at your first home visit assessment walks you through it.

Treatment sessions (£80)

Treatment sessions are where the work happens. Depending on your needs, we might use hands-on techniques, targeted exercises, balance and walking practice, or help with getting in and out of bed and chairs.

Each session builds on the last. We adjust your plan as you improve, and we'll always explain what we're doing.

Session bundles explained

If you think you'll need more than a couple of visits, bundles bring the price per session down. You pay once and use your sessions at your own pace within the validity period.

| | Pay as you go | 5-Session Recovery Bundle | 10-Session Realign Block | |---|---|---|---| | Total price | £90 + £80 per visit | £380 | £720 | | Price per session | £80 (£90 for the first) | £76 | £72 | | What's included | | 1 assessment + 4 follow-ups | 1 assessment + 9 follow-ups | | Valid for | n/a | 6 months | 12 months | | Extras | | | Priority scheduling |

5-Session Recovery Bundle: £380

This suits short-term problems, such as a sprain, a stiff back or the first few weeks after a minor procedure. You get one assessment and four follow-up sessions, which works out at £76 a session. It's valid for six months.

Paying as you go for the same five visits would cost £410, so the bundle saves you £30.

10-Session Realign Block: £720

This is for longer recoveries, such as rehabilitation after a hip or knee replacement, or ongoing support after a stroke. You get one assessment and nine follow-ups, which works out at £72 a session. It's valid for 12 months, and it comes with priority scheduling, so it's easier to get the visit times you want.

Ten visits pay-as-you-go would cost £810, so the block saves you £90.

Which one should you choose?

If you're not sure, start with your assessment. We'll tell you honestly how many sessions we expect you to need, and whether a bundle makes sense. You're never pushed into buying more than you need.

You can see all current prices on our pricing page.

Why there's no travel surcharge

Some home-visit services add a fee for mileage or distance. We don't.

Our travel is flat-rate. That means the price you see is the price you pay, wherever you live in our coverage area. There are no mileage charges and no surprise extras on the day.

We do this for a simple reason. If your family lives in Telford and another lives in Solihull, you shouldn't be charged differently for the same care. It also makes it much easier to plan a budget, which matters when you're arranging care for a parent.

Can I claim on insurance?

Possibly. This is general guidance only, because every policy is different.

Many private medical insurance policies include some cover for physiotherapy. Often there are conditions attached, for example:

  • you may need to check that your insurer accepts your physiotherapist
  • some policies ask for a GP or consultant referral first
  • your policy may need pre-authorisation before treatment starts
  • there may be an excess, or a limit on the number of sessions or the amount you can claim
  • some insurers only cover clinic-based visits, so it's worth asking about home visits specifically

Our advice is to phone your insurer before you book. Ask what's covered, what paperwork they need and whether you pay upfront and claim back.

We can provide receipts and your same-day assessment report to support a claim. For more detail, see our insurance page.

How many sessions will I need?

This is the question we hear most, and we're always honest about it. Nobody can promise an exact number of sessions before they've met you. Recovery depends on your health, your age, how long the problem has been there and how much you can do between visits.

What we can offer is a rough guide to what's typical. These are not promises. Your assessment will give you a more personal picture.

| Situation | Typical range | |---|---| | Recent muscle or joint strain | A handful of sessions over a few weeks | | Back or neck pain | A few sessions to several weeks of support | | Falls and balance concerns | Several sessions, often followed by a home exercise routine | | After a hip or knee replacement | Often a longer course across several weeks or months | | After a stroke | Often ongoing support over several months, with changing goals |

Some people need fewer visits than expected. Others need more. If your plan changes, we'll tell you, and we'll explain why.

One thing that makes a real difference is what you do between sessions. Your home exercises matter as much as the visits themselves. If you're helping a parent, a few minutes of practice each day is often more useful than anything else.

Home vs clinic: is it worth it?

Home physiotherapy isn't right for everyone, and clinics do a great job for many people. The best choice depends on you.

Home visits may be worth the cost if:

  • getting to a clinic is tiring, painful or stressful
  • you have limited mobility, or you're recovering from surgery
  • you're caring for someone who can't travel easily
  • you'd like treatment to focus on the real challenges in your home, such as stairs, bathrooms or getting up from a favourite chair
  • you want family or carers to be part of the session
  • you find travelling and waiting rooms hard to fit around work or caring

A clinic may suit you better if you're fully mobile and want access to a large gym or specialist machines.

When you add up the cost of fuel, parking, taxis or the time a relative spends driving you, the gap between the two can be smaller than people expect. Only you can say what your time and energy are worth.
