Hills, stairs and balance

Home physiotherapy in Halesowen, built for hills and stairs

Halesowen is built on hills, and many of its homes are reached by steps and steep paths. Stairs and slopes are central to how we plan recovery here. Our HCPC-registered physiotherapists visit across Halesowen, Hasbury, Lapal and Cradley. No GP referral, and travel is included.

The stair ladder: from level ground to the top landing

Halesowen’s hills change the physiotherapy. We train stairs and slopes in stages, so that you can manage your own staircase safely, one rung at a time.

  1. Step 1

    Level ground first

Confidence on the flat: steady walking, turning and standing balance.

  2. Step 2

    One step

A single step, up and down, with a handrail. We check your technique and which leg leads.

  3. Step 3

    A full flight

A whole flight of stairs at a pace that suits you, with rests where you need them.

  4. Step 4

    Slopes and outdoor steps

Steep paths, garden steps and the way into the house. We practise the routes you actually use.

How we help

How we help Halesowen families

Four areas we focus on in Halesowen, starting with stairs and balance.

1

Stairs, slopes and balance

Steep ground tests balance every day. We assess how you handle stairs and inclines, then build balance and leg strength with exercises that match the terrain outside your front door.

First month’s aimMore confident on steps and slopes, and a safer routine for getting in and out of the house.

How falls prevention works

2

Knee and hip replacement

After a new knee or hip we work on swelling, bend and strength, and then on the stairs and steep access steps you need to get home safely.

First month’s aimSwelling settling, movement returning, and your own steps managed safely.

What happens after a joint replacement

3

Stroke rehabilitation

We rebuild walking, standing balance and the use of the arm and hand, with practice built around your home, and teach family how to help safely.

First month’s aimClear goals, safer movement, and a routine you can follow between visits.

4

Back pain

Persistent back pain makes steps and slopes harder still. We work out what aggravates it, treat it, and set up a short routine of movement and strengthening.

First month’s aimLess pain on the stairs and a routine you understand.

About Halesowen

An abbey, a poet and the nailers

Halesowen is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. From the early 13th century it grew into a market town around its abbey, and the ruins of Halesowen Abbey still stand near the town.

In the 18th century the poet William Shenstone turned the grounds of The Leasowes into a landscape garden, which is now a public park. The town’s theatre bears his name.

For generations Halesowen’s main trade was nail making, much of it done by hand in small backyard workshops. It was hard, physical work, done at home.
